Community Youth Programs

Partners In Play

Partners in Play (PIP) strives to create opportunities for youth with intellectual disabilities. In partnership with local community sport organizations across Ontario, Special Olympics Ontario has created programs in the sports of athletics, basketball, soccer, and swimming. These partnerships will generate sport specific Learn to Play programs that are inclusive, safe, and designed for the unique needs of the athletes. By fostering the development of such partnerships, Special Olympics Ontario will look to establish a number of impactful goals for the program, as well as meaningful benefits for clubs, athletes, and all stakeholders.  A current list of PIP programs in the GTA can be found below.  Please contact Garry Maclean for additional information: garrym@specialolympicsontario.com

Active Start & FUNdamentals

Active Start is a program aimed at children 2-6 years of age with an intellectual disability (ID). When children with an ID receive early instruction in basic motor skills and have the opportunity to experience ‘play,’ there is improvement in their physical, social and cognitive abilities.

FUNdamentals is a program aimed at children 7-12 years of age with an intellectual disability. The program is a follow-up to the Active Start program and includes more sport specific related skills that will contribute to future sport participation.
